Nouns
In Mundeze, all words have an invariable root, the radical, from which one can form substantive, verb, adjective and adverb.
Example with “pel-” (to speak, to say)
pele: speech, statement
peli: to speak, to say
pela: oral, verbal, speaking
pelo: orally, verbally
The substantive is always formed by adding an ending –e to the radical. Nouns almost end therefore by -e *.
Examples
mate (woman)
bate (man)
doste (friend)
eve (house)
myawe (cat)
Plural of nouns
To put a noun in the plural form, one can add a –y at the end of the word (after –e), but it is not mandatory.
Examples
doste (friend)
dostey (friends)
bi dostey (two friends)
bi doste (two friends)
oliver ni amelia si mea doste (Oliver and Amelia are my friends)
Gender
Mundeze doesn’t distinguish between masculine and feminine nouns. Gender is indicated by the prefix ba- (masculine) and ma- (feminine) *
Examples
te = human | ane = person | |
bate = man | baane = male | bae = the masculine |
mate = woman | maane = female | mae = the feminine |
* There is also a prefix za– for non-binary gender.
Proper nouns
In Mundeze, proper nouns are not capitalised and come immediately after the noun they modify, without the use of a preposition.
